One of my favorite things about blogging using WordPress is the unlimited ways you can customize your blog. This customization can be accomplished from the countless number of plugins you can install on your blog. However, it can be a daunting task to go through all of these plugins and figure out which ones you REALLY need. That is why I wanted to create this post and show you EXACTLY which plugins you will need.
If you are an active blogger and use this as part of your social media strategy these recommended WordPress plugins can be especially helpful. If you are unaware of how to install a new plugin the process is rather simple. Go to the navigation on the left side of your WordPress dashboard and click "Add New" under the Plugins section. Type in the plugin name that I recommend and then locate it in the search results. Once you find the plugin click install, activate the plugin and you will be good to go.
If you want to get the most out of your WordPress blog then you MUST install all of these plugins...
1. Akismet - This plugin checks all of your comments for spam.
2. All-In-One SEO Pack - This nifty little plugin enhances your search engine optimization (SEO) capabilities, allowing your blog to rank higher in the search engines.
3. Comment Luv - This plugin helps to drive more traffic back to the commentor's website. This increases the interaction on your blog amongst your active readers and new visitors.
4. Facebook Share - Relatively new plugin that allows your readers to share your blog post on Facebook.
5. Google Analytics For WordPress - Essential plugin used to track all of the activity on your blog. With Google Analytics you can view the amount of traffic that comes to your website, sources of traffic, time spent on each page and a number of other useful metrics.
6. Google XML Sitemaps - This plugin is used to generate an XML sitemap of your blog which in turn makes it easier for search engines to index your blog and blog content.
7. Onlywire - This is one of my favorite sharing plugins. Onlywires allows you and your visitors to share your blog content to up to 33 different social bookmarking websites all at once. This increase backlinks to your blog and the relevancy of your content to the search engines.
8. Optimal Title - Makes your content titles more easy viewed and scanned by search engines.
9. Popularity Contest - This helps to rank your posts by popularity. In general this can elicit a positive response from your blog readers and get them to read your more popular posts.
10. Simple Tags - Plugin used to manage all of your blog tags (keywords). This plugin also helps to have your tags get recognized by search engines more quickly.
11. Smart Update Pinger - Plugin that is used to control the amount of pings your blog sends out. It pings only when you publish a new post, not when editing.
12. Subscribe To Comments - This plugin allows readers to be notified when new comments are added to a post entry. This increase the interaction among readers and new visitors.
13. Tweetmeme ReTweet Button - Very cool plugin that allows you and other readers to tweet the post to Twitter. This increases the likelihood that more people will be able to view your blog post.
14. WP Related Posts - Generates a list of related posts for your readers. This increases the amount of time a specific visitor can spend on your blog. The more posts read the better!
15. WP Super Cache - The more plugins and content you have on your blog the slower it will load. This plugin takes care of that problem and allows your blog to load faster for your visitors.
Joey Fratantoni's recommended WordPress plugins are crucial for your blogging success. Check out Joey's blog for more great tips and resources for blogging, online marketing and home business development.
Given the huge variety of plugins available for WordPress I thought it would make sense to discuss my top WordPress plugins which I believe you should install right away. A plug-in is, simply put, a small software add-on with a specific functionality which will make building your site much easier and, not unimportant, optimize your money-making opportunities as well (often free of charge). Here are some my key picks:
* Easy Privacy Policy - In case you want to benefit from Google AdSense and make money, one of the requirements is having a Privacy Policy page. This plug-in will automatically create one for you!
* Google XML Sitemap - This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo and Ask.com to better index your blog. With such a sitemap, it's much easier for the crawlers to see the complete structure of your site and retrieve it more efficiently. A must have plugin in my view!
* All in one SEO Pack - Optimizes your blog/site for search engines, hence will increase the chances of getting good traffic to your site. Another must have plugin!
* Cbnet Ping Optimizer - This one will prevent your site from becoming marked as a ping spammer by the likes of Google. Every time you edit a post/page and hit the "save" button WordPress will normally send out an unnecessary ping to the search engines. This will plug will prevent that from happening.
* WordPress DB Backup - Makes it easy to make a back-up of your WordPress site. Highly recommended to have in your plugin collection!
* Microkid's Related Posts - Enables you to manually select related posts to your posts to increase the chance your readers stay on your site and check out some of your other content.
* Kontera ContentLink - This plugin will automate your Kontera links across your blog and will make you money (don't forget to put in your Kontera Publishing ID in the settings!)
* Amazon Reloaded for WordPress - A great plugin if you are planning to promote Amazon products on your site through their affiliate program. You can browse Amazon products in WordPress and directly create affiliate text links and images for your site.
* Under Construction - A nice and simple plugin that will enable you to show an under construction" sign on your domain when you are still in the process of building your site.
* Sociable - Adds icons at the bottom of your posts through which your readers can share your post through social media like Facebook, Digg, del.icio.us, e-mail, Twitter, RSS, and dozens more.
* Akismet - Deals with spam comments and acts like a filter. Really recommended if you have comment boxes, something you should have to promote interaction with your audience. This Plugin comes automatically with the latest WordPress versions.
* Recent Comments - This plugin enables you to show the most recent comments on your site in the sidebars. In my view a good way to promote interaction with your readers while also showing your blog is alive and kicking!
* SEO Friendly Images - this is another plugin for search engines optimization, automatically updating all images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes.
* Blog Copyright - Blog Copyright injects a copyright notice into the blog footer. The copyright notice automatically updates the year range as time goes on removing the need to ever revisit your copyright once the plugin is put in place.
* Subscribe to Comments Reloaded - This is a good plugin that enables people leaving comments to sign up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries. The plugin includes a full-featured subscription manager that your readers can use to unsubscribe to certain posts or suspend all notifications.
* Broken Link Checker - The plugin monitors your blog looking for broken links in posts, pages, comments etc, making sure everything works like it should be so your site works as it supposed to be.
* Popularity Contest - Popularity Contest keeps a count of your post, category and archive views, comments, trackbacks, etc. and uses them to determine which of your posts are most popular. Other Widgets exist to also display the ranking in your sidebar (like Popularity List Widget).
* WP-Email - WP-Email allows people to recommend/send your posts/pages to a friend, colleague, etc. Great plugin to let other people promote your site and its content.
* WordPress Firewall 2 - Keeps those hackers out of your WordPress blog/site so make sure this one is installed before you have to regret it.
To add any of these plug-ins, just go into WordPress, go to the Plugins section and press "add", look for the plugin and simply install!
These top WordPress plugins will optimize your site and make it easier for you to make some money with it as well. Let me know what you think, if I missed any good plugins in your opinion or if you disagree with my choice of top plugins.

I know there are many different articles out there that cover WordPress plugins but I felt the need to create one based on my own experiences. I have compiled a list of the top 5 most useful WordPress plugins that I actively use on my sites.
W3 Total Cache
This plugin is the heavyweight in WordPress Caching plugins and is being used on the high traffic blog Mashable.com. W3 Total Cache provides the most options of any caching plugin that I have ever used. If you don't know what caching is let me explain that briefly first. Caching on a WordPress blog or any blog can be very important due to limited server resources or days of higher than normal traffic. Caching plugins will create static versions of your dynamic pages on your site so they can be served much quicker to visitors with less load on the server than dynamic pages.
W3 Total Cache also provides more functionality than just caching your content. It can also provide you with Database Query Caching, Minify your code, CDN, and Browser Cache. I want to talk more about the CDN or (Content Delivery Network) this feature allows you to use an already in place CDN like Amazon or create your own. You can actually create a self-hosted CDN network within your own server or on another server that you own via FTP. Why would you want to create a CDN on your site, because it will dramatically improve load time on the site or appear to when your users visit. A CDN allows a browser to load more objects and images in parallel than without.
Overall, if you haven't tried W3 Total Cache on your blog you are missing out, go ahead and give it a try.
Sharebar
The Sharebar creates a Mashable-like (looks just like the one found on Mashable.com) social media sharing plugin that follows along side your posts when scrolling. The plugin is completely customizable which gives you the freedom to ad any kind of button that you like. The plugin also allows you to change the background color, width, and positioning to better fit the design of your site. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Visitor Maps and Who's Online
The Visitors Maps and Who's Online plugin is a traffic statistics plugin for your WordPress installation. This plugin allows you to track which users are on your site at any given time, where they are from in the world, and much more.
The Who's online page that comes with the plugin displays information about every user that enters the site. It will display their IP address, location, browser type, whether they are a robot or person, what page they are on, and the last time they clicked something on the site. This information can be quite useful to determine what post or posts are popular on the site at any given time. It can also help you determine how many people are on the site at any given time of the day especially if one of your articles becomes quite popular.
WordPress.com Stats
The plugin WordPress.com Stats is also a traffic statistics plugin for your WordPress blog. The plugin provides you with a comprehensive look into your traffic data. With the plugin you get a nice graph that sorts your data into Days, Weeks, or Months. There is also a page that displays where your hits are coming from called Referrers, and Top posts and pages, search engine terms, and even clicks on your content. This plugin is a must have for any WordPress blog, if you use it now let me know what your experiences with the plugin are.
Lightbox 2
I don't have much to say about Lightbox 2 except for the fact that this plugin looks great! Like any other Lightbox plugin this one also allows users to click on your images which will then pop up and enlarge. Lightbox 2 however has a much easier to use GUI for the end user in my opinion than other Lightbox plugins.
If you use any of the WordPress plugins I have listed above leave a comment about your experience with any and I will try to help you if I can. If you haven't used them, feel free to leave questions.

WordPress itself is a great platform to run your own blogs but WordPress plugins make it a lot easier to control spam comments, SEO, check for broken links, place revenue generating ads and to back up your WordPress database to name a few. Without these plugins you would require technical expertise way beyond the average blogger, not to mention the time plugins save in doing things like creating a "Contact Us" page and sorting out all those spam blog comments.
Here are the 9 plugins that I now use on all my blogs.
Akismet is a popular plugin that checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You can review the spam it catches under "Comments." Without such a plugin your blog could easily become full of undesirable comments that you certainly do not want your readers to read.
All in One SEO Pack is Out-of-the-box SEO for your WordPress blog. You can use this plugin to tweak the default options for title, description, keywords and duplicate content.
Broken Link Checker checks your posts for broken links and missing images and notifies you on the dashboard if any are found. There is nothing worse getting traffic to your blog and then sending them to a web page that no longer exists. Without this plugin it would takes quite some time to regularly check all the links on all your blog posts and pages.
Google AdSense, Chitika and Kontera plugins allow you to monetize your blog and make an income from an information blog.
Contact Form 7 allows you to create a "Contact Us" page with a form people can fill in for further information or questions about your products.
Google XML Site maps plugin will generate a special XML site map which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog. Another time saving plugin.
Pretty Link will shrink, track and share any URL on the Internet from your WordPress website. No more ugly affiliate links that you have to hide under hyper-linked text.
StatPress gives real time stats for your WordPress blog. This is my preference for displaying my blog stats.
WP-DBManager manages your WordPress database. Allows you to optimize database, repair database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database, drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Supports automatic scheduling of backing up and optimizing of the database. This is probably one of the most overlooked plugins for WordPress as a backup is only needed when your blog has been hacked or has failed due to technical issues. Relying on your hosting account for backups may not be a good as you think because blogs need to be backed up regularly as they are constantly changing with new posts being added regularly.
These are only a few of the many plugins available to use on your blogs. You need to consider the nature of your blog, the niche you are blogging in and other things like are you using you WordPress blog as a blog, a sales page or just a website?
You must also be aware that some plugins for WordPress can conflict with one another and cause problems with your blog. From my experience I have had I am yet to have a problem using the above combination of plugins but one must remember that plugins are always being updated and conflicts may arise with future updates.

Most plugins only require the easy install. However if you have bought a plugin or if you have a special plugin you will need to install it via your cPanel. This is the "back office" as set up by your web-host, like Blue Host or Host Gator, and where you probably installed WordPress.
Have you downloaded your WordPress plugin?
First you need to download your WordPress plugin. If you have bought it, they should have sent you a download link. If the plugin is part of a membership site, they have it on their site somewhere.
Has the plugin passed qualifications?
Make certain it is a quality plugin that is not going to cause problems. It could cause problems with WordPress, for your readers or otherwise. Thus you want to check any plugin against a qualification list.
Do you know what your cPanel is?
Once it passes, you will need to log in to your cPanel. When you signed up with your webhost, you should have been given a special page or site on your webhost where you log in. The cPanel is basically your back office, and gives you the site owner access to a variety of different tools.
Where is the File Manager?
Towards the bottom you should see a box that says something like Software and services. Look for "File Manager," this will allow you to upload the plugin with relative ease. Once in the File Manager, make certain you are in public_html.
How do I find my WordPress site?
Next you will need to search for the name of your blog. You may or may not see ".com" or anything after the name. If your blog is a sub/directory under a name like example.com/blog/ you will need to click plus sign for "example" then plus sign for "blog."
Where will I upload this WordPress Plugin?
Now click plus sign for the file called "wp-content" Click the file "PlugIns" in that file will be some pre-installed plugins. Go toward the top. Click Upload, browse and upload in the new window.
Is my WordPress plugin installed now?
Go back to your "File Manager" page. You may need to refresh, then you should see your plugin name with a box beside it. Click the name to highlight it. Then look for "Extract" a box icon. You should see a blue file with the name of your plugin. Log out of your cPanel. Now when you log in to your WordPress account you should be able to find your plugin and activate it.

If there is one thing that bloggers can't resist, it's reading about the essential WordPress plugins that other bloggers use!
It's almost like if you're a professional chef and someone shares a killer recipe... you can't just not look, right? Or a woman sharing a tidbit of juicy gossip; it's impossible for other ladies to ignore.
It's taken me the past 10 months of actively trying to improve my blog to come up with this list. This isn't just some list that I Googled and haphazardly through together; this is every single active plugin that I have on my blog right now.
Enjoy my list of essential WordPress plugins!
Akismet
One of the most basic plugins for any WordPress user. If you're not using this, you'll be sifting through thousands upon thousands of unwanted spam comments. This plugin takes out the garbage so you never have to see it!
All In One SEO Pack
Does all the crazy annoying SEO junk for you. Gives you a simple form to fill out with each post (title, description, tags) and then automatically optimizes it for you. I love this one because my descriptions show up on Google the way I want (and they rank FAST).
Broken Links Remover
This one can be a lifesaver. On blogs with dozens or even hundreds of posts, it's a tall task to click on every link and make sure they're still going where they should. This plugin gives you a list of every single link on your site that's not going anywhere. Another must-have!
Cbnet Ping Optimizer
So, every single time you update your blog, it automatically sends a "ping" (basically an update) to the search engines. This lets them know to send back their "bots" and index the new content.
But, if you're updating a lot, your site is sending out a lot of "pings", and the search engines might think you're just spamming them to get your site indexed. This plugin helps to optimize your pings and make you appear less "spammy".
CommentLuv
Very cool plugin that promotes a more social, interactive atmosphere! Basically, when someone leaves a comment, they also leave their website URL. This plugin goes to their website and automatically picks up their last blog post and shows it in the comment they just left. People are much more likely to leave comments if they're getting love back to their own blog.
Comment Redirect
When someone leaves a comment, they're automatically taken to a page of your choice. You can take them to a thank you page, or (if you're bold) straight to a capture page... it only does this for the very first comment they leave so it's not annoying.
Digg Digg
Puts all those cool little share buttons at the top of each post. Gives you a list of several social media sites and you pick which ones you want to show up. Also displays how many times your post has been shared, so your readers can see some proof that you are indeed popular.
Edit Comments
Have you ever written something stupid, and then realized you couldn't edit it? And it's on the internet for everyone to see? This simple plugin lets readers edit their comments for up to 30 minutes.
Exclude Pages From Navigation
For when you want to include a "secret" page within your blog that you don't want the general public to see! You can create a page that is only accessible with a direct URL; it doesn't show up as a post, tab, or even in your sites navigation. Perfect for exclusive content you only want to share with certain people.
Fast Secure Contact Form
Not only an easy way for readers to send you a message straight to your email inbox, but gets rid of the spam robots from leaving you messages as well.
Favicons
It puts a little image in the tab in your browser. It gives your site a little more personality, and a little more recognizable as well. Plus, when a reader leaves a comment, it puts up a little image of them as well. I couldn't find this plugin in the back office of WordPress, so click on the title for the download page.
FD Feedburner Plugin
When a visitor wants to subscribe to your feed, this plugin redirects them to Feedburner.com. Within Feedburner, you can add pictures, allow your readers to share certain content, and customize other features. It helps your feed to stand out among others that your readers may be following.
Feed Subscriber Stats
Shows on your dashboard how many people are subscribed to your feed through Feedburner.
Google XML Sitemaps
This is another SEO plugin that most humans don't understand but Google and Yahoo loooove. Basically, it makes it easier for search engines to index your blog. That's always good.
Popularity Contest
Keeps track of which posts are the most popular according to your visitors' behavior. You can even change up the values to make commenting or visits more heavily "weighted" when figuring up the most popular. After you install this plugin, head over to the widgets and drag the "Popularity Contest" widget wherever you want it.
PopUp Domination
My favorite and one of the most essential WordPress plugins that I use! It creates that awesome looking pop-up opt in form that comes up on my blog. It allows for very easy customization, and even allows you to decide exactly how often it pops up for each visitor. Costs $47, but well worth it to get higher opt-ins.
Pretty Link (Lite Version)
A very, very useful plugin! It lets you cloak links and then tracks how many clicks have been made. It's not a super-detailed tracking system, but it's free! It's useful if you have some long, ugly affiliate link that you want to track as well. Your links are your domain, followed by whatever ending you want to put in. For example, mine look like who-is-erin-smith.com/FP or whatever else at the end. Pretty nifty (plus people are more likely to click on it if the link looks like a blog.)
Related Posts Thumbnails
This one is great for keeping visitors on your log much longer. At the end of each post, pictures and descriptions for six other related posts are displayed. I've had many comments from readers that they couldn't leave my blog because they kept clicking on those thumbnails and jumping to other posts.
ReplyMe
When someone leaves a comment, they have an option to be notified of follow-up comments. Normally, this means they will be notified of every single comment that comes after theirs. But, with this plugin, they are only notified if someone replies to their specific comment. Helps keep your visitors from receiving a bunch of unwanted mail, and only receiving one or two useful messages when they get a reply.
Robots Meta
Another boring SEO plugin... It just cleans up unnecessary junk.
SEO Friendly Images
Zzzzzzzzz... more SEO. Helps your images get found by search engines (like in Google Image Search)
SEOPressor Unlimited
Another SEO plugin... but NOT boring! Probably the most essential plugin I have because it makes all the "on site" SEO stuff super duper easy. It makes a list of all the things you should do inside your post to make it rank (like certain tags, keyword density, no follow links, etc) and gives you a percentage out of 100. This one costs $37 for one domain, or $97 for unlimited domains... has been worth every penny for how many posts I've had rank on Google.
SEO Slugs
BORING! (but darn useful) Cleans up the URL for individual posts (takes out words like "a" "and" "an") so the search engines like it better.
SexyBookmarks (by Shareaholic)
Comes up with a bajillion different share links to social media and social bookmarking sites. They show up at the bottom of each post and they look snazzy.
Thank Me Later
This plugin automatically sends out a Thank You email to everyone who leaves a comment. It allows for some variation on the message. Overall, great for reader satisfaction and keeps them coming back!
Top Level Categories
More SEO junk. It takes the category out of the post URL's. It makes it look cleaner, plus it focuses more on the keyword in the post URL.
WordPress EZ Backup
ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL WordPress PLUGIN!! Sorry for the all caps... but one of the worst days I had last year was when I went to my blog and all that was there was the shell. All my posts, pics, videos, EVERYTHING was gone. Helps you recover a disappeared blog in no time flat. Helps keep blood pressure down, too.
WordPress Thread Comment
Allows you to reply to a single comment. When you find a specific comment you want to reply to, your reply will show up in the same box as the original comment. Basically, it makes it obvious who you're talking to.
WP Frame Breaker
Have you ever clicked through from a 3rd party site to a blog, and the 3rd party site's header takes up half the page? Well, you don't want that happening to you. This plugin gets rid of the frames that referring sites sometimes put on your blog when sending visitors through.
WP Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a tracking resource that keeps track of everything you want to know about your visitors: where they come from, what posts they enter and exit on, how many unique visitors, and a million other things. This plugin makes it easy to incorporate Google Analytics on to your blog.
WP Greet Box
Another "reader satisfaction" plugin that basically greets every visitor who shows up. It puts up a different message depending on where your visitor came from. If they found your site on Google, a message pops up saying something like "Welcome Googler..." You can edit these messages.
WP Super Cache
Makes your blog super duper fast! Not only is it less of a pain for your visitors, but it also helps your blog rank better.
Whew! I know that's a lot of plugins! Like I said above, this list of plugins is taken directly from my back office and I use every single one of these. If you use all of these, I guarantee you'll be able to get more opt-ins, get your readers to stay longer on your blog, have more repeat visitors, and have more posts indexed by Google. Sound good?
Hope my list of essential WordPress plugins helps!

WordPress has offered people from across the world with an easy, cost-free, and open-source blogging platform since 2003. Considered the best and most popular blogging tool at recent times, WordPress has also provided opportunities for developers to create premium WordPress plugins designed to address the needs of millions of WordPress users.
What are plugins? WordPress plugins are simply defined as prepackaged codes that can enhance the features and functionality of a website or blog. Various plugins offer a wide range of advantages for WordPress users. For one, plugins can help optimize a WordPress blog so that it gets a high ranking in search engines. Second, plugins can monitor site statistics such as page views and visitors. Third, plugins prevent comment spam from flooding a blogger's WordPress account. Other useful WordPress plugin features include photo galleries, advertisement manager, and social bookmarking. WordPress plugins make it easy for bloggers to add functionality to their blogs without the need for tedious and complicated coding. With the many benefits a blogger can get from free WordPress plugins, it is no wonder that developers take them a notch higher-that is, they develop various premium WordPress plugins to suit different blogging needs.
Although premium WordPress plugins has not yet fully taken over the prominence of free plugins, the former's importance cannot be underestimated. Compared to free plugins, premium plugins give more assurance that they are appropriately supported, updated, and improved.
In fact, there are a number of premium plugins considered by many as the best there are on the market. Most of these good premium plugins have useful features for search engine optimization (SEO), affiliate marketing, and advertising purposes. Premium-designed WordPress plugins for SEO provides users with full control over their blogs from the WordPress dashboard. For affiliate marketing purposes, some premium plugins enable the blogger to manage his or her affiliate links using the WordPress dashboard. In addition, affiliate-oriented premium plugins make it easy for bloggers to put advertisements into their blogs. On the other hand, plugins that are made for advertising help users manage the advertisements on their blogs by automating paid reviews, text links, banners, and collecting payments for the blog owner. Some premium plugins allow bloggers to create a number of full-featured review websites.
All in all, premium WordPress plugins can meet the needs of most bloggers in terms of earning money online. Premium plugins provide solutions for bloggers who want to monetize their blog by helping them do it successfully. The monetary benefits are worth the money spent for purchasing these plugins. With premium plugins for WordPress at their disposal, bloggers do not need to acquire technical knowledge or skills to maximize their blogs' potential to drive huge profits. Before purchasing premium plugins on the Internet, a conscientious blogger should do an extensive research on certain premium plugins that can cover his needs. Of course, careful preparation is important in any undertaking. Enhanced WordPress experience and improved money making strategies can be achieved if bloggers use the right premium WordPress plugins for their needs.

What is the best wordpress plugin? If you guys are brand new to the idea of blogging, a wordpress plugin is simply just an add-on that you can put into your blog. There are all sorts of various plugins at your disposal. But only a really handful of wordpress plugins are actually USEFUL to converting more of your readers into buyers, email opt-ins or loyal readers.
So what are they?
Let us get into the thick of it as they say... Now these are not just fluff stuff that will slow your blog down. These are actually the #1 things that can grow traffic to your blog and make your blog 200-500% better than where it currently sits if you're flying-solo without any at all.
Time to dive in!
1. Facebook Share
This was the original facebook share button. A lot of blogs have gone away with this blog in favor for the "like" button on the blog. I say BOTH are important. Here is why the old facebook share button makes our little best plugins list.
It allows social proof to be seen a lot quicker and more dramatically displayed. As we know, readers are more enticed if they see that a lot of people are sharing an article or a piece of content. So by having that at the top, allows us to display the number of how many times we have been shared on facebook. Also the "like" plugin ruins a lot of the head space in your blog. Which is why I include it at the bottom of my blog versus the top.
The FB share button is still super effective and highly recommended!
2. Tweetmeme
This plugin is pretty much exactly the same as facebook share. The only obvious difference is that it is for twitter not for facebook! I am not a HUGE fan of twitter as any of you who follow me already know. I rarely use it, though I should, but a lot our readers do use twitter and absolutely love it. So allow them to spread the love across their 140-character-long diaries.
3. Facebook Like Button
I love the Like button, I include it at the end of every blog post. The cool thing is it will tell you everyone who liked it, and sometimes it'll be someone the reader is friends with or respects if they are heavy in your niche. Which causes them to respect you and your content even more, and make it more likely to share your stuff with the world.
4. Commentluv
Let us be honest. Majority of people reading a blog, especially in the make money niches and network marketing niches, have something they want to sell too. To reward these people for commenting on our blogs, we become a "Dofollow" blog and allow their latest blog post to appear on our own blog. This allows them to do a little bit better advertising of their content when they comment to enrich our own.
I love commentluv, cause it builds really good backlink juice, which for you SEO nuts is awesome.
I actually have people hiring and outsourcing people to come and comment on this blog. No idea how many, but I am sure the fact I have commentluv is a big reason why! (Other than my AMAZING content!)
5. All In One SEO Pack
Even though it is constantly wanting to update itself which is semi-annoying, this is an awesome plugin for SEO junkies and any real-time blogger. Because it allows you to put in all the SEO info you need at one go. Put it in and you're done.
This is a requirement if you want be successful with SEO on a blog as far as I am concerned, and really easy to use.
6. Google Analyticator
This plugin is a behind-the-scenes deal, but basically using this tool you can quick updates on traffic coming to your blog. What is even cooler is going into the back office they have and you can see exactly where everyone is coming from. Whether predominantly from facebook, or from the search engines. Of course, the biggest traffic source you want is called "Direct".
Meaning people actually just come on the internet and type in your blog into the address bar! Because those are the people who are loyal fans and like what you have to say.
Other useful information are things like understanding bounce rates, and the most frequented pages on your blog. Don't get lost in the numbers, but do understand what they are saying about your blog so you can adjust and optimize everything.
7. Google XML Sitemaps
Also a powerful SEO plugin. This automatically creates a sitemap on your blog which helps with SEO. Basically the sitemap organizes everything more neatly and makes the Google spiders and gods go through your content and index it quicker and better. (Which means higher rankings on the search engines)
8. WP Ezinearticles
I really like this, no idea how helpful it TRULY is, but I believe it is worth to have on your blog even if you're not big into article marketing. Basically what it does is creates a little box in your wordpress "Add new post" section. When you are done writing your post, you can click the "submit" button and it will automatically send your blog post to Ezinearticles as a submitted article all in the span of a few seconds.
Saves a lot of hassle if you enjoy submitting articles like me.
9. ThatMLMBeat Beat It Button
I just started using this myself, it is a plugin similar to tweetmeme only instead of twitter it shares your content on ThatMLMBeat. A website community focused on blogging specifically in the mlm/network marketing and internet marketing niches. Everytime someone clicks on it, your post will get bumped up into the top and front page of their community.
Which is pretty awesome targeted traffic for most of us in this niche! You do need a ThatMLMBeat account, but that's for free unless you want the premium. Highly recommend it.
10. SSG Google Wordpress Audio Player
I LOVE this thing. This is one of my favorite wordpress plugins, if not THE BEST wordpress plugn on this list in my opinion.
You see, I hate doing videos but I love doing audios. (You know got that hot Alaskan silky voice haha) and doing interviews. I actually have a small library of interviews with many six-figure income earners in our profession I have been waiting to whip out and never had a chance to till I found my hosting solution. See I was messing with Amazons3 and all this other crap I couldn't figure out, till my friend Brandon Connell told me about this plugin.
It hosts all of your audio on your blog for free and it will also embed an actual audio player inside your blog post instead of your reader having to open up a new window for your audio (for free). Super useful.
Advice on the Best Wordpress Plugins...
Please do not look at this as a definitive list. I love blogging, but it is a constantly changing and evolving world. There is new plugins coming out all the time. And some plugins I know of that I use that I didn't mention here (but will soon in another post) used for different purposes. These are the basics, the stuff I believe every network marketing blog if not at least blog itself should have.
The greatest piece of advice I can give you on using and finding the best wordpress plugins is network with other active bloggers. Constantly be on the search for them. Developers are always coming out with new and cool things that you can use. So keep your eyes OPEN.
That way you will ALWAYS have the best wordpress plugins on your blog, and make your audience very happy and giddy to promote you all over the internet-worlds that-be. Goodluck and good wordpress plugin hunting/installing.

WordPress Plugin Development - Customize WordPress To Your Desires By Developing Your Own WordPress Plugin
WordPress plugin development takes the hassle of tech support out of software development! Once you have developed your plugin for WordPress all you or your customer has to do is upload it to the plugins folder on their web server and activate it in the WordPress dashboard.
Talk about easy installation!
What You Need To Get Started In WordPress Plugin Development
A test environment (a WordPress blog set up specifically for testing purposes).
A firm grasp of PHP.
Knowledge of how WordPress plugins work.
An idea for a great and innovative plugin.
Let's discuss the above statements one at a time shall we?
Setting Up A Plugin Development Test Environment If you have a cpanel web host chances are that you can setup a new WordPress blog in less than a minute. What you need to do is create a sub domain that you will only use for testing purposes. Then after the sub domain is all set up, assuming your web host has the Fantastico feature, you install a new blog on your new sub domain using Fantastico.
All of this shouldn't have set you back more than a couple of minutes!
Side note: If you don't have cpanel or Fantastico you just have to set up a blog on a sub domain the old fashioned way.
To Develop Plugins You Need A Firm Grasp Of PHP Well, although it is an advantage it's not entirely true. You can actually just learn PHP as you go along, but there is no doubt that you would be better off going through some basic guides on PHP first.
You Need To Know How WordPress Plugins Work Before Getting Started Again that would be a huge advantage, but it is entirely possible to learn as you go. In fact, if you're just getting into plugin development you probably don't know that much about how they work. My recommendation is that you find a simple existing plugin and try to figure out how it works. The "Hello Dolly" plugin is a great place to start.
Side note: A good way to learn is to make slight alterations to existing plugins and see what happens.
Great Plugin Ideas This is the only part I really can't help you with. If you're an "idea-man" it will come naturally, if not, you'll have to work harder.
Pretty much anything is possible. Let your imagination wander and find those golden ideas.

If you already have a blog, chances are that you are using WordPress as your platform. If you're not, you should be. There is many reasons as to why WordPress is the most popular blogging platform on the Web today.
In terms of Internet marketing and getting rankings, WordPress offers the most search engine friendly blogging platform in addition to being very user-friendly. The other great thing about it is the amount of plugins which you can add to your blog.
If you are not sure what a plugin is, it basically adds new functions to a WordPress blog. A plugin is essentially a program written in the PHP programming language that adds a specific set of features or services to the WordPress blog. All you have to do to add a new feature or service to your blog is find a relevant plugin, upload it to your plugin folder and then "activate" the plugin on the dashboard. It's that simple.
That being said, there are literally thousands upon thousands of plugins out there (most of them are free) and if you are newbie, you may get tempted to add as many plugins as you can to your blog. The bottom line is that you only need a couple of them to get your blog going. In order to help you with which plugins to choose, I've chosen the top 10 WordPress plugins that you must have.
1. Akismet
Don't you just hate people leaving spam comments on your blog? I certainly do, and if you dislike such comments appearing on your blog, the Akismet plugin automatically does that for you. I don't have time to deal with spam and I hope you don't either.
2. All-In-One-SEO Pack
If you are looking for the ultimate plugin to transform your blog into an SEO optimised blog, then this is the one. It's quite simple to use and before long, you can be ranking for your keywords.
3. MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer
If there's one thing you don't want, it's for the blog to be banned from ping services. Every time you edit or update your blog, you automatically send a ping to let them know that your blog have been updated and that the changes will need to be indexed. However, you can get banned from ping services if you end up doing this too often. In order to avoid this from happening, you need to use the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer plugin.
4. Remote Database Backup
Whatever you do on the Web, you need to have backups. Backing up data is one of those things that people don't take seriously until it happens to them. This plugin helps you backup your WordPress blog at any time.
5. SEO Smart Links
This cool plugin allows you to automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog. Furthermore, you can set up your own keywords along with their own matching URLs. This is a must have plugin if you want to maximise the SEO benefit for your blog.
6. Sexy Bookmarks
This allows your readers to submit your articles to numerous bookmarking sites on the Web. This is a must-have in the current era of social media. Get your Sexy Bookmarks plugin today.
7. Frame Buster
This plugin will thwart any attempt to load your site in a frame. Optimal for getting images to rank on the search engines.
8. Google Sitemap Generator
If you want Google to index all the pages on your blog as quick as possible, then you need this plugin. It allows you to create a sitemap at a click of a mouse.
9. CommentLuv
This plugin allows your visitors to comment while adding a link to their own blog post. This will encourage them to comment and in combination with the Akismet plugin can get you genuine and informative comments on your blog.
10. WP Backlinks
This plugin allows you to track the links going back to your blog. For the purposes of SEO, you want to get as many sites out there linking back to your website, however, you want them to come from reputable and legitimate sites. The WP Backlinks plugin gives you the ability to control and verify this.
If you go ahead and add the plugins featured on this blog, you can ready to start dominating the Web with your blog. Keep in mind that it's the quality and frequency of content that you add to your blog that will determine its success. My hope is that you have found this article about the top 10 WordPress plugins on the Web very useful.

WordPress is a great platform for very simple blogs but in order to give them a more professional look and to make them function more efficiently themes and plugins are essential.
Basically a theme is what makes your blog look the way it does whereas plugins take care of a lot of the functions behind the theme. Think of the theme as being the outside look of your car, WordPress itself as the engine with the plugins being the things such as the lights, indicators, warning lights etc that are good to have but not essential to run the engine of the car. I am no mechanic but you get the idea.
I guess the simplest explanation is that they are a bit of code that make things easier to do or allows you to do things that without the particular plugin are very difficult to do and beyond the capabilities of anyone other than a person with a technical knowledge of WordPress.
They allow you do to do things with WordPress that without them would be either time consuming and may also require technical expertise in WordPress beyond that of the majority of WordPress users.
What are some examples of WordPress plugins?
Akismet is a popular plugin that checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You can review the spam it catches under "Comments." Without such a plugin your blog could easily become full of undesirable comments that you certainly do not want your readers to read.
All in One SEO Pack is Out-of-the-box SEO for your WordPress blog. You can use this plugin to tweak the default options for title, description, keywords and duplicate content.
Google AdSense, Chitika and Kontera plugins allow you to monetarize your blog and make an income from an information only blog.
Contact Form 7 allows you to create a "Contact Us" page with a form people can fill in for further information or questions about your products.
These are only a few of the many plugins you can use on your blog and it all depends on what you want your blog to do as to what plugins you need to install to make it work more efficiently and save you extra time in maintaining your blog.
So from the above you can see that plugins do enhance your WordPress blog. For more information on WordPress check out my blog at http://www.kerriesheehan.com. If you are looking for more information about making money blogging check out the Simple Cash Blog at http://simplecashblog.keries.com/

As a general rule of thumb most errors you'll encounter with your WordPress blog are the result of excessive or incompatible plugins. While many find the selection of essential plugins a conundrum I believe in testing each plugin one-by-one with the latest version of WordPress so I can isolate the problem to determine the cause of the slow load times, call function errors or php memory limit warnings. The most valuable tool I can tell you when it comes to plugins is that when possible look for existing code that can accomplish the same result.
Of course there are certain plugins that even I use in my WordPress Blogs. I've compiled a list below of the top 10 plugins that I use on a daily basis that I believe will help any tech blog:
* AdSense Now - There are many ad insertion plugins for WordPress, but if your tech blog is using AdSense - this is the plugin I recommend. It allows you to insert your ad blocks aligned left, center or middle in 3 sections of a post. It also gives you the option to suppress ads on pages, category pages, tag pages, archives and more.
* Audio Player - Being able to insert mp3 clips or podcasts into your blog can be a problem. Audio Player is a plugin that makes this process simple - simply create a music folder on your site via FTP and then upload mp3 tracks to the directory. You can insert the built-in audio player into any of your posts or pages with a simple line of code - painless, simple and easy.
* Facebook Sharecount - It's no secret that social networking sites like Facebook are effective ways to create a fanbase, but being able to harness that power relies on an easy way to share your great content. Facebook Sharecount will make it easy for visitors share your posts and monitor your content.
* Foliopress Descriptions - Once your tech blog has hundreds or even thousands of posts you will need a way to mass edit your descriptions. While the importance of meta descriptions is debated, I still believe that a hand written summary should be written for each post. Foliopress Descriptions supports post excerpt, These and All In One Seo meta description fields.
* Google XML Sitemaps - If you've read my previous post on how to get indexed by Google and Yahoo you know that having a sitemap is essential. This plugin auto generates your sitemap in a nice and neat XML file and let's search engines understand the content on your tech blog. After installing and activating the plugin Google XML Sitemaps will take care of the rest.
* NextGEN Gallery - Managing your images and photo galleries can be a pain, but NextGen Gallery makes this simple. With features like auto resizing, watermarks, thumbnail creation as well as gallery effects - NextGEN Gallery is a must have plugin.
* Star Rating for Reviews - When you run a tech blog sooner or later you will start receiving products for review. Creating a solid review is as much about content as it is about presentation. Star Rating for Reviews allows you to create ratings for the products you review or even rate different aspects of the product and averages the ratings to determine a final score. The possibilities are limitless with the plugin - a must have for anyone looking to review tech.
* TweetMeme Retween Button - If you look at the posts on TechBlogStartup you'll notice a yellow Retweet button aligned to the right. The power of Twitter is growing by the day so making it easy for your reader to ReTweet great content can prove very valuable. If you've installed Google Analytics like I explained in my previous post here, then you will be able to monitor just how many visitors enter your post through Twitter. If you are wondering why I haven't included ShareThis it's because I manually insert the code instead of using a Wordpress Plugin.
* WP Super Cache - If you've heard of Digg then odds are you've heard of the Digg Effect where an article on a website becomes so popular so quickly that the flood of traffic to the website causes the server to crash. Since WordPress blogs are built on SQL Databases they are highly susceptible to this condition, but installing WP Super Cache can almost eliminate this threat. The plugin builds a cache of your posts and creates a static html page so that the server load is reduced and your site can handle more visitors. If your tech blog is brand spanking new I would install the plugin but not activate it until I started to see spikes in traffic or one of my articles was picked up by a major tech blog like Engadget or Gizmodo.
* All in One SEO - Search Engine Optimization is a key ingredient to driving organic traffic to your tech blog. Writting great content is key, but after you have created that content you need to make sure that it targets keywords and includes some basic optimization to ensure it is search engine friendly. All in One SEO does this job very well. If you are using the WordPress theme I use (Thesis) then you will not need this plugin, but for pretty much every other WordPressTheme I recommend installing it right away so that you can start writing your custom meta descriptions
All of the plugins I've mentioned above can be downloaded manually and then uploaded via FTP to your blog or you can add them from within your WordPress Dashboard - personally I prefer the latter. If you are wondering why certain plugins are not listed on my top 10 list - I just don't find them essential to a tech blog. You will notice that I do somethings with TechBlogStartup that many people use Plugins or Widgets to do - eg. the top 6 articles aligned horizontally at the top of the site or the Recent Posts section in the side bar. For tech blogs that receive a large volume of traffic, limiting the plugins helps reduce the SQL memory load and if you've ever had a website crash you know just how important this is. Do you have some WordPress plugins on your tech blog that you think we should know about? Go ahead and drop your own list or links to the plugins in the comments section below so we can check them out.
